Kara Wood Ceramics offers a range of ceramic classes and workshops for all levels of students. Currently located in Tighes Hill, near Newcastle, NSW, the studio offers:
Adult night classes Monday to Thursday nights - 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Adult day classes run Wednesday and Thursday - 9:30 am to 12:30 pm
Children's classes run each Tuesday afternoon during school terms, 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm; and
Specialty and introduction workshops are run on weekends.
Weekly ceramic classes are student-focused and accommodate all skill levels. Students are taught techniques dependent on skill level and allowed to explore and self direct the learning.
Both adult and children's classes run during school terms, as vacancies for classes become available they are listed for booking on the class vacancy page of this website. Subscribe to our mailing list if you are interested in attending future classes. When a space becomes available an email will be sent to all subscribers. Vacancies are also advertised on the Kara Wood Ceramics Facebook page and we encourage you to follow our page on Facebook.
Classes can be safely booked and paid online through PayPal or your credit card.
Term dates for 2020 are as follows:
Term 1 - 3 February to 9 April - 10 wks
Term 2 - 27 April to 2 July - 10 wks
Term 3 - 20 July to 24 September - 10 wks
Term 4 - 12 October to 17 December - 10 wks
Students attend classes on a term by term basis. All fees are paid in advance at the start of the term.
Students are eligible for a reduction in fee for each term they attend over a four term period. The reduction is capped at the 4th term rate.
The table below shows the price for each subsequent term the student attends. All new students start on the 1st term attendance rate.
Beginners - 1st Term $ 450.00
Second Term attended $ 420.00
Third Term attended $ 390.00
Fourth Term attended $ 360.00
Classes can be safely booked and paid online through PayPal or your credit card. All prices include GST.
The price of clay is not included in adult tuition fees. Clay is currently charged at $ 40.00 a bag. The price of clay includes firing and glazing.
Both stoneware and earthenware clay is available for purchase. Most students work in stoneware clay.
Our preferred supplier of clay is Keanes Ceramics.
Students who wish to bring their own clay must bring the original clay bag and pay a firing and glazing fee for all work produced.
